Have you been thinking about the chevy fender in our worship space?

As we continue our journey through Proverbs, this week we will be talking about pride.  There are several verses in Proverbs that talk about pride.  Two that stuck out to me are…

Proverbs 16:18… Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 29:23… One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.

I appreciate the way The Message captures Proverbs 16:18…

First pride, then the crash— the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.

Interesting thing about pride, I don’t think our goal is to live a life of pride.  It just sort of sneaks up on us.  Pride can show up in a lot of different forms, like criticism, competition, stubbornness, and superficiality.  Pride can be so self-deceiving. If you have too much pride, it can be difficult to see it yourself, but can be painfully obvious to others around you.

It seems like pride is one of those things if we don’t deal with it, it starts to eat away at us.

How do we deal with pride?

What characteristics could replace pride in our lives?

What do you think it the opposite of pride?

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
