What if I told you that this week’s scripture involves a magician, a talking donkey, and an angel.  This story is full of greed, betrayal, and corruption.  And if that wasn’t enough, what if I told you this story was located in the book of Numbers?

If you think the book of Numbers is one of those boring books that contain long lists of names and not much for us today, you might be surprised.

This week we are going to look at Balaam.  This story is recorded in Numbers chapters 22-24.  For our time together on Sunday we will focus on the part of the story recorded in Numbers chapter 22.  If you decide to read the story ahead of Sunday, here are a few questions to think about…

What stands out to you in this story…

The part that Balak summoned a sorcerer to curse Israel?

What about the lengths that God went to communicate with                Balaam?

                        Does Balaam’s stubbornness surprise you?

Have there been times when God was telling you no about something?

How did that feel?

Do we act in denial like Balaam when God is wanting to direct us in a different direction?

Last week we talked about King Josiah and how his heart was postured toward loving and serving God.  What do you think is Balaam’s motivation?

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
