Happy Valentine’s Day… oh wait

I mean Happy Transfiguration Sunday!  Is that a thing?

Transfiguration seems like one of those fancy church words that we kick around once a year.  Transfiguration comes from the Greek metamorphothe, from which we get the word metamorphosis, meaning to change.

So, Jesus changed in front of them.

The lectionary scriptures in front of us this Sunday are…

2 Kings 2:1-12

Psalm 50:1-6

2 Corinthians 4:3-6

Mark 9:2-9

We will spend most of our time on Sunday looking at the Mark 9:2-9 passage.  To get a feel for the story, you might want to read Mark 8:27-38.

God’s voice makes a return this week, do you remember the first time we “heard” God’s voice in Mark.  How is God’s message different this time?  In what ways is it the same.

Why do you think Jesus told the disciples not to say anything about what happened on the mountain?

If you witnessed everything that happened on that mountain, would it have been easy for you to stay quiet?

Do we keep our mountain top experiences to ourselves or do we share them with others?

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
