This week as we continue our focus on mission and service we ae excited to have Alan Lane from Habitat for Humanity sharing with us.  One of my memories from the 2003 Mennonite Convention in Atlanta was hearing Jimmy Carter share about Habitat for Humanity.  One thing I appreciate about Habitat for Humanity is that they don’t simply build houses—they talk about building homes, communities, and hope.
In just the past few weeks, we have heard from Tasha serving with Mercy Ships, the Lehman family serving in Kenya, from our youth group who served in Harrisburg and this week we have the opportunity to hear about the mission of Habitat for Humanity.  How do we view mission and service?  There are various ways for us to participate in mission and service; locally and globally, financially and prayerfully, there are opportunities for us to serve together as a church family and sometimes we are called as individuals.  Are we spending time seeking and listening to what God is calling us to?
I have been carrying this quote from St. Francis De Sales… “There is nothing small in the service of God”. This makes me think about Jesus words in Matthew chapter twenty-five…

35 I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. 36 I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.’

37 “Then those who are righteous will reply to him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? 38 When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and give you clothes to wear? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

40 “Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.’These are just some of my thoughts.  I look forward to hearing what Alan has to share with us…
Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
