Greetings Marion Church Family!
This week we are continuing our series on the One Another statements in the Bible. During our time together this Sunday, we will be focusing on one verse.
1 Thessalonians 5:11…
This verse starts with one of my favorite words in scripture (NIV translation)…
Therefore
The reason I appreciate this word so much in scripture is because when you read the word, “therefore”, we need to pause. This word, “therefore”, indicates a need for context. When a verse starts with therefore, you can’t look at that verse as a single standalone verse, you have to look back to get some context.
To get the context of 1 Thessalonians 5:11, you need to start in Acts chapter 17 where the story begins.
This week, I invite you to spend some time in the first half of Acts chapter 17 and in 1 Thessalonians to fully appreciate the context of Thessalonians 5:11…
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
As you read about what is going on in Thessalonica, what does it reveal about God?
What does it reveal about humanity?
What does encouragement look like within the church?
Does encouragement look different outside the church?
Do you find it easy to encourage others?
Do you appreciate receiving encouragement?
Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
