This week as we continue our study of the spiritual practices, we are looking at Solitude. Solitude is often paired with Silence.
In a world filled with constant noise and distractions, finding moments of solitude and silence can feel like an impossible task. Yet, as Jesus demonstrated in His own life, the practice of solitude is a formative practice for spiritual growth and transformation.
There are many different types of noises that surround us, including audible noise, informational noise, and the noises in our head.
Solitude acts as a counter-practice to the noise and busyness of our lives. It allows us to slow down, detach from distractions, and connect with God on a deeper level. Jesus regularly withdrew from the crowds to solitary places for prayer and reflection. Can you think of scriptures that show Jesus seeking solitude?
Solitude is not just about escaping the noise; it’s also about embracing the silence and allowing our souls to be transformed. As we spend time alone with God, we can experience God’s presence, receive God’s guidance, and be filled with God’s love.
Do you find it easy to disconnect from your daily life and connect with God in Solitude?
What are the obstacles that keep you from spending time in Solitude?
Do you desire Solitude in your daily life or does that seem unproductive?
Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
