This Sunday we will look at a prophet in the Old Testament whose book is not about God speaking through the prophet, but more about the prophet’s life.

Any guesses…

The book is only four chapters…

48 verses…

The book ends unresolved and with a question…

If you guessed Jonah, you are right.

This week, I invite you to read the book of Jonah.  Yes, the whole book, it should only take about ten’ish minutes.

It is a familiar story, one we have heard many times, but read this book with fresh eyes and see what God might have for you as you read the story this week.

What stands out to you?

What is this story about?

What can we learn from this story?

The book is referred to as one of the minor prophets, but it only contains one prophecy.

Did you know that Jonah is the only minor prophet mentioned by Jesus (Matthew 12:40)?

As you read the book of Jonah think about how many times the fish is mentioned.  Think about how many times the city is mentioned.  Think about how many times Jonah is mentioned.  And lastly think about how many times God is mentioned.

Do we get angry at what angers God, or is our anger based on our frustration and inconvenience?

Do we extend grace and mercy generously like God or do we reserve it only for those who we think deserve it?

If you have 10 minutes this week, read the book and Jonah and let’s talk about it on Sunday.

Speaking of talking on Sunday, this Sunday during Congregational Care, everyone will be given the opportunity to share.  You can share on what God is doing in your life, you can share any insights you have on Jonah or on this series, or you can share whatever the Spirit is nudging you to share.

This Sunday we would love to hear from you.

Don’t be shy, don’t be nervous…

please feel free to share at our service.

See what I did there… it rhymed.  Ha ha that made me chuckle.
