This week as we continue looking at Jesus’ Sermon on the plain, we are “adding” three more verses… Luke 6:43-45.  I invite you to read Jesus’ sermon starting at the beginning… Luke 6:17-45.

The end of verse forty-five is where my thoughts have parked for a bit…

for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks.   NSRV

Your true being brims over into true words and deeds.                   The Message

The inner self overflows with words that are spoken.          Common English Bible

For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.            New International Version

What you say flows from what is in your heart.            New Living Translation

On Sunday, I invited us to think about who and what is forming us.  Jesus seems to be stating that who or what is forming us will become evident because it will “leak” out of hearts in our words and actions.

Whatever fills our hearts will eventually overflow in our words, choices, and relationships.  This can be a sobering truth, but it’s also an invitation; to allow ourselves to be continually transformed so that what overflows from our hearts is life giving to the faces we see each day.

What type of things are you gathering?  Through the news, entertainment, social media, conversations, and our thoughts…

Where are you dwelling?  Who are you surrounding yourself with, who is your community?

Are you being formed or transformed?  Is one a worldly process and one a kingdom process?

What “leaks” out of your heart?

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
