Greetings Marion Church Family!

We are in week five of the “I am” statement of Jesus.  Do you remember the previous four?

I Am the _____ of ____.

I Am the _____ of the _____.

I Am the ____.

I Am the ____ ________.

It feels like as we have looked at the first “I am” statements we have covered most of John chapters six through ten.  If you like reading larger chunks of scripture, I would suggest reading John chapter eleven this week.  It seems like this chapter is a turning point in the gospel of John.  This is the seventh miracle of Jesus recorded in the gospel of John; it is also the fifth “I Am” statement.

The events in John chapter 11 become the controversy that drives the Jewish leaders to want to kill Jesus. The rest of John’s gospel seems to be pointing us toward the cross.  John chapter eleven is a familiar passage with some of Jesus’ friends.

When you read, “I am the resurrection and the life”, what thoughts come to mind?

What do you think Martha thought when she heard it?

Why didn’t Jesus say the same thing to Mary?

What do you think Jesus is trying to reveal about himself in this “I am” statement?

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.

It may be Super Bowl Sunday, but our Sunday morning time together will be way better than a football game on Sunday evening!
