This Sunday we will continue our series on the One Another’s.

Our focus this week is one from the book of Romans, chapter 15…

This week, understanding the back story and the context of Paul’s invitation to “one another” is very important.

So let me try and set the stage for our scripture focus this Sunday…

By the time we reach our scripture in Romans 15 Paul has painstakingly and strongly encouraged the church in Rome to get along.

This was a predominantly Gentile church, but over the years Jewish Christians moved into the community of faith, and it raised all kinds of questions on the relationship between the gospel and laws of Moses.

As you could imagine, the Gentile Christians had gotten along fine without any Mosaic constraints, but now all of a sudden, since the Jewish Christians have come around, they are criticizing the way the Gentile Christians are living their faith.

You could say that the Jewish Christians wanted the Gentile Christians to give Moses a little more respect, and the Gentile Christians were like… “Nope, Not us, Not today, Not ever!”

This tension led Paul to pick at this tension between the Gentiles theology and a different Jewish theology as both groups claiming they are closer to Jesus.

Sound familiar?

But Paul’s strongly felt belief is very simple, sort of…

Love one another. Don’t judge your brother or sister for their sincere devotion to God. Strive for peace. Build one another up…

which is encapsulated in our scripture this week…

Do you know what it is?

 Let’s talk it on Sunday…

In case you need another reason to join us on Sunday, I will give you two…

1.      We will be having our Educational Wing celebration/dedication.

2.      Fellowship meal… enough said.

I hope to see you on Sunday.
