It was a good weekend to spend time together…

            To talk together.

            To remember together.

            To cry together.

            To make new memories together.

This week feels different.  Lament comes easier for me this week.

Hard questions are on the tip of my lips, lack of understanding fills my mind, and my heart aches.

In a week full of grief and busyness, let’s take time  “to be still and know…”.

As we spend some time together on Sunday morning, we will be looking at Psalm 22… the first eighteen verses.

Maybe some of the emotion that David is expressing, you feel too.

Sometimes our tears are the only and most authentic part of ourselves we have to offer God.

They are all we have.

They are who we are.

In those times they are our prayer, the tether between us and God. The presence of our tears in the tragic are as important as the presence of God. They are where our life, our journey and God intersect. Maybe that’s why God hears the voice of Rachel, as she laments. Maybe that’s why God says to her, “There is hope for your future” (Jeremiah 31:17).

The way of hope, however, is often a tearful path. Jesus wept at the grave of Lazarus (John 11:35). He wept over Jerusalem (Luke 23:28). Tears water and soften the soil of our heart. They are our preparation for God “making all things new” (Revelation 21:5).

While we don’t always find an answer to life’s questions, bringing our laments to the Lord moves us from unrest to hope.

May you find peace, shalom, and hope this week.

I am carrying this song in my heart this week…

“earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal”.

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
