This Sunday we are going to talk about serving others…

The Bible has a lot to say about serving others…

In Galatians 5:13, Paul writes:

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

We are reminded in Mathew chapter 20 verse 28 that we are called to serve because Jesus first served us.  When we serve, we are showing God’s love to others.

When we serve, we make a difference for others, we have an opportunity to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.  But it isn’t just others that benefit from our serving, so often we get just as much, if not more from serving others.

Have you found that to be true?

In Acts chapter 20, we are reminded of Jesus’ words…

It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Serving others keeps us grounded. It shifts our focus from “me” to “we.” It reminds us that life isn’t about accumulating stuff but about relationships and love. It humbles us, grows our empathy, and fills us with joy.

Have you ever helped someone and walked away feeling worse?

Probably not.

Could it be because serving others plugs us directly into God’s purpose for our lives?

In 1 Peter 4:10, we’re reminded…

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

 So, what is your gift(s)…?

Whatever your gifts are, are you using them to show love and value to others?

Sometimes serving can feel inconvenient.

Serving others isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up with love. It’s messy, rewarding, exhausting, and joy-filled all at once. And it’s one of the most tangible ways we can reflect Christ’s love in this world.

When it comes to serving one another, how are we doing as a church family?

How are we doing when it comes to serving our surrounding community?

How might God be inviting you to serve those you worship with each week and the faces you see each day?

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
