It is officially summer!

Sorry students if you are still in school, but according to the church calendar, June is the beginning of the summer quarter.  This summer we will be looking at common phrases that are attributed to being in the Bible, but they are not.

These phrases are all over the place.  Some will be terrible theology, some will be okay, just not in the Bible and we will compare and contrast these popular sayings with what the Bible actually says.

So, to get this series off on the right foot, I am going to give you three phrases, and see if you can guess which one is NOT in the Bible…

1.            The blind leading the blind.

2.            This too, shall pass.

3.            Escape by the skin of your teeth.

If you guess correctly, then you know what we will be talking about on Sunday.

If not, then you will need to spend some time with us on Sunday to know which of these phrases is not from the Bible.  I look forward to series over the summer as we examine the Bible together.  I read an article from a college professor who teaches “Bible 101” he said that from time to time he will “quote” a scripture from 2 Hesitations 4… he waits to see if anyone realizes that there is no such book in the Bible and only a few students catch on.  In the same article a Jewish Rabbi, once had to persuade a student in his Bible class that the saying “this dog won’t hunt” doesn’t appear in the Book of Proverbs.

I found these two examples humorous, but also a little sad.

Let’s have fun this summer examining what the Bible has for us.

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
