This week as we look at another phantom scripture in the Bible, I wonder how many of us have used this phrase in the past…

“Love the sinner, hate the sin.”

It is a popular phrase and one that might suggest solid Biblical theology.  In fact, if you “Google” this popular phrase, you will find many articles supporting this thought of, “love the sinner, hate the sin”.

Last week Pastor Blaine used the word plausible to describe this summer series, and this week, I would use the word half-truth.  You see there are parts of this phrase that I appreciate, and am encouraged to practice, but there are other parts that cause me to pause.

Is there anything about this phrase that causes you to pause?

I invite you to sit with this phrase this week and spend some dwelling in the scriptures below…

                Luke 18:9-14

John 8:1-11

Matthew 7:1-5

1 Peter 4:7-11

What stands out to you in these scriptures?

Is there a connection between this week’s phrase and these scriptures?

During our time together on Sunday morning, we as a church family will be invited to share during the “congregation care” portion of our time together.  This is one of my favorite parts of our time together.  I am excited, encouraged, and challenged by the stories that are shared about how God is working in our lives, what relationships are being formed and strengthened by sharing Jesus’ love, and how the Spirit is moving, guiding, and transforming us.

I am looking forward to our time together on Sunday morning to hear from our Marion church family.  Blessing on your week as you dwell with these scriptures.

Let’s talk about it on Sunday.
