This Sunday we will be continuing our series on the Holy Spirit.

We can read about the Holy Spirit in our bibles as in the 4 short scriptures below.  Persons can also have experiences with the Holy Spirit.  This Sunday we will be talking about one of the Holy Spirit’s various functions… the Holy Spirit REnews.

Isaiah 40:30-31

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

These verses from Isaiah suggest that it is not unusual to become tired and weary.

Can you identify 1 or 2 things that are especially depleting for you.

Can you name 1-2 things that find helpful in recovering your strength?

Psalm 51:10-12

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

There is a ‘re’ in renew.  Can you identify one area of your faith/spiritual life that feels empty or stagnant?

Matthew 11:28:30

‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

These words from Jesus’ sound almost too good to be true.  Yet he said them to people living in difficult circumstances.  What about these words from Jesus’ are encouraging to you?

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We are living during a time when there is plenty to be anxious about.

Can you describe what it is like to experience first hand ‘the peace of God which transcends our understandings?’
