Conspiracy Theory 101: Join the Discussion!

Is God a conspirator? According to Dallas Willard, he is. Now not in the usual dark or negative sense of the word, but a conspirator nonetheless. A conspirator is one who conspires or plots. A plot is defined by Webster as a secret plan, and further, a conspiracy implies that there are various parties working together to accomplish this plot.

Hmm… What’s God’s secret plan? Well Willard, a philosophy professor of all things, does a masterful job of explaining God’s (secret) purpose in sending Jesus. He then goes further and describes the incredible transformation that happens in a person’s life when they decide to follow Jesus and join in God’s conspiracy to change the world, or better stated, to restore the world to His original intention. Willard does all of this, and more, in his very rich book entitled The Divine Conspiracy: Rediscovering Our Hidden Life In God.

I’ve been reading in this book the past weeks as I am preparing, along with the help of a team, to lead a study of it in our upcoming quarter of Sunday School. The reason I bring this to your attention is that I am inviting all interested adults, young and old, readers and non-readers, to join us for this discussion. If we together are able to grasp the rich truths in this book, I am convinced it will make a difference in our lives, individually, and as a congregation.

Willard states his goals in writing the book in his introduction.

“My hope is to gain a fresh hearing for Jesus, especially among those who believe they already understand him.  In his case, quite frankly, presumed familiarity has led to unfamiliarity, unfamiliarity has led to contempt, and contempt has led to profound ignorance.

Very few people today find Jesus interesting as a person or of vital relevance to the course of their actual lives.  He is not generally regarded as a real-life personality who deals with real-life issues but is thought to be concerned with some feathery realm other than the one we must deal with, and must deal with now.”

I strongly urge you to consider coming and at least checking out the class. Whether you are an avid reader or not, we will be attempting to make this discussion one that is both enjoyable to participate in and of real value in your journey towards or with Jesus. Whether you’ve been a Christian as long as you can remember, or if you are young in your faith, this class is for you.

Please join us and rediscover God’s true purpose for your life, as we become aware that the LIFE that Jesus speaks of is not only available in the eternal realm, in the far-off future, but most importantly in the here and now!
